Middle School Family Engagement Resources

Family engagement in education doesn’t stop after elementary school. It’s just as important, but it looks and sounds different.

Our Middle Ground project at the Ohio Statewide Family Engagement Center provides educators and families with research-based tips and opportunities for launching middle schoolers’ success. Our Middle Ground Team is currently conducting a research project in partnership with Graham Elementary and Middle School (GEMS) in Central Ohio to test out the Tips for Families as a routine text-messaging communication strategy that schools can use. The Middle Ground Team has also applied for an IES Grant to continue expanding this applied research on middle school family engagement to more Ohio schools, and has an article forthcoming in the School Community Journal.

Research Brief

This Brief written by our Center is for administrators, counselors, and teachers, 4th through 7th grade, looking to improve their strategies for partnering with families in order to facilitate and support early adolescents’ transition to middle school.
