Individual Professionals Path: Level 1
A seminar, specifically designed for teachers, to learn how to collaborate with families to support children’s early literacy development. You will explore strategies to recognize families’ unique assets, communicate with a growth mindset, and implement evidence-based family engagement practices. The seminar is delivered in three learning blocks through a flipped instructional model. For each block, you will first complete a self-paced online module to build your background knowledge related to family engagement. Then, you will join an instructor-led online workshop session to apply knowledge to your school or program.
Learning Objectives:
- I can apply an assets lens to discover families’ strengths to increase opportunities for all families to support early literacy.
- I can apply growth mindset concepts to my communication and collaboration with families.
- I can apply evidence-based family engagement strategies that support early language and literacy development.
- I can create a personalized plan to partner with families to support early literacy.
Outcome: The outcome of this seminar is to create a personalized plan to strengthen family partnerships and boost literacy outcomes for young learners.
Prerequisite: None (Note: Either Unlocking Early Literacy with Family-Teacher Collaboration OR Foundations of Family Engagement is a prerequisite for all other seminars in our catalog.)

Workshop: Instructor-led online meeting of all seminar participants featuring application of knowledge and collaboration with other learners.
