While participating in the Family Leaders for Ohio Schools Academy at the Ohio Statewide Family Engagement Center, Ohio parent Kimyata developed the “Family and Educational Success Advocate” initiative.
The Family and Educational Success Advocate project was created by Kimyata to address communication barriers between families and the school system in Lorain City Schools. The initiative aims to ensure that students, parents, and educators are aligned in their goals and that families have the resources and support they need to actively participate in their children’s education.
The program’s goal is to strengthen collaboration among schools, families, and the broader community.
Key objectives include:
- providing third-party advocates for families
- ensuring follow-up meetings are made
- facilitating access to resources
- amplifying student voice
The initiative also promotes inclusive communication practices and joint goal-setting between families and school staff.
Parents who attend the Family Leaders for Ohio Schools Academy design projects and create a plan to implement them locally. Want to be inspired by more parent leadership stories or attend the Academy? Visit our Family Leaders for Ohio Schools Academy page!
