The Office for Exceptional Children at The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce

The Office for Exceptional Children (OEC) is part of the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. It helps make sure that students with disabilities receive the support they need to learn and grow.

OEC works with school districts and other programs across the state to improve education for students with disabilities. They provide guidance, training, and resources to help schools follow state and federal special education laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA).

The office also manages state and federal funding for special education, supports programs that help improve student outcomes, and has a system in place to monitor schools and respond to concerns or complaints.

By working closely with schools, educators, and families, the Office for Exceptional Children helps ensure that students with disabilities receive a free and appropriate public education in Ohio.

OEC provides families with important information about the special education process and helps families and schools when there is a dispute over special education services.
