“Ohio has both a law and a State Board of Education and Workforce policy providing guidance for family and civic engagement” (Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, 2022).
In 2007, the Ohio School Board approved a model policy for school boards, districts, and schools to review as they develop their own local family engagement policy. At the heart of this model policy is that schools will have strong and consistent two-way communication between school and home, and that schools will provide many varied opportunities for families to engage in support of their child’s education, including ideas for when and how to support learning at school and at home. Click below to read the current model policy, which includes several good ideas for how schools can improve their system of supports for engaging productively and consistently with families.
