Guidance for Families of Children Learning English (Available in multiple languages)

This toolkit from the Improving Instruction Project has resources for families of children who are learning English. The guides for families on their website include:

  1. Building Successful Communication Between Parents/Guardians and Teachers
  2. Working with Language Interpreters – You have the right to ask the school for a language interpreter to help you talk to your child’s teacher.
  3. Accessibility and Accommodations – For example, a child may need extra time to complete a homework assignment or read a test in English. Some students may be given permission to look up words in an English dictionary.
