Check & Connect is a student engagement intervention from the University of Minnesota. “Since 1990, the Check & Connect student engagement intervention has been used in K-12 schools with students showing early warning signs of disengagement from school and learning or at risk of dropping out.”
We like the Check & Connect modules and implementation tools because they provide free documents that educators working directly with families can make copies of and use, to document their goals for engaging with families and to make a plan for future follow-up.
Check & Connect also has helpful guidelines for engaging with families about attendance, graduation, and dropout prevention. Each guideline includes examples of what mentors do in interaction with parents/caregivers.
