What is the Family Leaders for Ohio Schools Academy?
The Family Leaders for Ohio Schools Academy is a program designed to equip parents and caregivers with the knowledge and skills necessary to engage as leaders in their local school communities, advocating for educational equity and student success.
The Academy has two phases:
Phase I January-May: Participants complete four online learning modules, attend two virtual meetings, and three in-person meetings in Columbus, Ohio.
Phase II June-December: Participants attend two virtual meetings and complete a project to address a need within their school or district.
Who is it for?
– Parents and caregivers of children enrolled in a K-12 Ohio public school.
– Ideal for individuals who want to make a difference in their local school communities.
– Open to anyone that is newly involved in their school or actively involved.
Where does it happen?
– In-person sessions are hosted in Columbus, Ohio.
– Learning modules and additional meetings are online to provide flexibility.
Why does it exist?
– To build leadership skills that help families collaborate with school officials and community stakeholders.
– To give participants the tools to identify and address local educational needs through practical, school-based projects.
– To foster a supportive network of family leaders across Ohio who champion positive change in education.
How much does it cost?
This program is grant funded and is offered at no cost to families.
Program Requirements:
– Attend all in-person and online meetings.
– Finish all seminar assignments.
– Design and implement final project.
– Share results of project with our center.
When is the next Academy?
Enrollment for 2027 Academy will open September 1-November 9, 2026.
