Educators from Brooklyn City Schools registered to participate in the Ohio Statewide Family Engagement Center’s online seminar called Partnerships for Literacy during the 2023-2024 school year. During the first workshop, they engaged in an activity to map out all of their current family engagement practices and whether or not they were connected to student learning.
After the workshop, they reflected on ways to weave student learning throughout their upcoming events. One staff member had an idea – why don’t they incorporate a read-aloud into their My Guy Walk Event? So they did! In the article linked below, you will see how they are already applying lessons from the Partnerships for Literacy Seminar to joyfully and meaningfully engage with families in their district. This is a great example of a district that is finding ways to engage fathers in a positive way in their child’s education, while building community. Go Hurricanes!
