Info Brief: The Power of Cultural Brokers to Build Partnerships with All Families

Reaching and partnering with the families of all students can be difficult. Research supports the role of cultural brokers as an effective strategy for building these important relationships. This article describes cultural brokers as “individuals who acts as bridges between families and schools.” The article provides three promising strategies for reaching families farthest from opportunities for partnering in their children’s education:

1) parent capacity building;

2) culturally-specific relationship building; and

3) systemic capacity building.
